Pricing, estimates & honesty
Do you give estimates before doing any work?
Yes — every repair starts with a written, itemized estimate that you approve before we touch the vehicle. The price we quote is the price you pay, and nothing is ever added without your OK.
Will you ever do work I didn't approve?
Never. Nothing happens to your vehicle until you've seen the estimate and said go. If we find something else while we're in there, we stop, show you, and let you decide.
How do I know I'm not being oversold?
We tell you what needs fixing now and what can safely wait — and we'll take you to the vehicle and show you the problem, in plain language. We'd rather earn a customer for life than push a quick sale.
Can I bring my car in for a second opinion?
Absolutely — we welcome it. Bring the estimate you were given anywhere else and we'll inspect the vehicle, show you what we actually find, and tell you straight whether the work is needed now, later, or not at all. Trust is earned with evidence, and second opinions are exactly how you should test a shop.
Is an independent shop cheaper than the dealership?
Usually, yes — and you don't give up quality. Our ASE-Certified technicians diagnose carefully, use quality NAPA and OE-grade parts, and qualifying repairs carry a nationwide 2-year/24,000-mile warranty.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and the Synchrony Car Care credit card. You'll know the full cost from your written estimate before any work begins.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — Auto Medics accepts the Synchrony Car Care credit card, and you can apply in minutes online or from your phone in our lobby with a real-time decision. All applications are subject to credit approval, and every credit decision is made solely by Synchrony Bank — approval is never guaranteed. See our Financing page for the details.
Booking & what to expect
How do I book an appointment at Auto Medics?
Book online in under a minute using the Book Appointment button, or call the shop at (406) 493-0019. Tell us the vehicle and what's going on, and we'll get you scheduled.
How far in advance should I schedule?
A few days ahead is ideal for routine service. If something feels urgent — a warning light, a new noise, weak brakes — call us and we'll work you in as fast as we can.
What are your hours and where are you located?
We're open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at 2603 Industry St, Suite A1 in Missoula, Montana — just off Reserve Street.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Your keys and a quick description of the symptom — when it happens, what it sounds like, any warning lights. Service records help if you have them, but they're not required.
How long will my repair take?
It depends on the job, so we give you a realistic time estimate up front when we hand you the written estimate — and we call you the moment your vehicle is ready.
Warranty, parts & quality
What warranty do you offer on repairs?
Qualifying repairs are backed by a nationwide 2-year/24,000-mile warranty through NAPA AutoCare — honored at thousands of shops across the country, not just ours.
What kind of parts do you use?
Quality NAPA and OE-grade parts. Good parts are what make a warranty like ours possible — we don't cut corners on components.
What does “ASE Certified” actually mean?
ASE certification is the auto industry's professional standard: technicians must pass rigorous exams from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and prove hands-on work experience. It means a trained expert — not a parts-swapper — is diagnosing your vehicle.
What does “AAA Approved Auto Repair” mean?
AAA inspects and approves repair facilities for technician certification, customer satisfaction, and fair business practices. Only shops that pass AAA's standards — and keep passing them — can display it.
Why do Missoula drivers trust Auto Medics?
Because we treat trust as the product: ASE-Certified technicians, AAA-approved shop, written itemized estimates before any work, complete repairs done as a system, and a nationwide 2-year/24,000-mile warranty on qualifying work. Missoula drivers have rated us 4.8 stars across 214 Google reviews — and the pattern in those reviews is straight talk and fair bills. We work to earn that trust on every single visit.
Vehicles we service
What makes and models do you work on?
We service 60+ makes, foreign and domestic — from daily drivers to European vehicles and diesel trucks. One trusted shop for every vehicle in your driveway.
Can you inspect a used car before I buy it?
Yes — our pre-purchase inspection puts an ASE-Certified technician through the whole vehicle before you sign anything, so you know exactly what you're buying and what it'll cost to keep on the road.
Do you service business fleets?
Yes. We keep Missoula work trucks and fleet vehicles on the road with priority scheduling and honest maintenance planning — ask us about a fleet account.
Car care questions, answered
How often should I change my oil?
We recommend every 5,000 miles for most vehicles — Montana's cold starts, dust, and mountain grades qualify as severe service on most maintenance schedules, so 5,000 miles keeps a healthy safety margin. Always confirm against your owner's manual, though: your manufacturer's schedule is the final word for your specific vehicle, and we'll set your interval to match it.
Why is my check engine light on?
A check engine light can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a failing sensor or misfire. A steady light means get it checked soon; a flashing light means stop driving and call us — that usually signals active damage. Real diagnosis means testing, not just reading the code and guessing.
How do I know when my brakes need to be replaced?
Squealing or grinding noises, a vibrating pedal, longer stopping distances, or a pull to one side are all signs. Don't wait on grinding — that usually means the pads are gone and rotors are being damaged, which makes the repair more expensive.
Should rotors be replaced with brake pads?
At Auto Medics, yes — when your brakes need replacement we do the complete job: new rotors, new pads, and a brake fluid flush. New pads never seat evenly on worn, grooved rotors (that causes noise, vibration, and weaker stops), and brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which quietly corrodes the hydraulics. Doing the system as a system is how a brake job stays fixed — and it's all in your written estimate before we start.
How should I get my car ready for a Montana winter?
Before the first cold snap: test the battery, check tire tread and pressure, verify your coolant is rated for below-zero temps, and replace worn wipers and washer fluid. We can run through all of it in one visit.
Are snow tires good in the rain?
Yes — in cold, wet conditions, quality winter tires grip rain-soaked pavement very well because their softer rubber stays flexible in the cold. The trade-off: on warm roads they wear faster and stop a little longer than all-seasons, which is why we recommend swapping them off in spring.
Is it OK to drive with the check engine light on?
If the light is steady and the vehicle drives normally, it's usually safe to drive short-term — but get it checked soon, because small causes become big bills. If the light is flashing, or you feel shaking or power loss, stop driving and call us: a flashing light usually means an active misfire that can destroy the catalytic converter.
Why does my car pull to one side or shake at highway speed?
Pulling usually points to alignment or tire issues; a shake at highway speed often means wheel balance, worn suspension, or steering components. Both are worth checking soon — they wear tires fast and can hide a safety issue.
